Kai Tak Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH)

Kai Tak Airport (IATA: HKGICAOVHHH) was the international airport of Hong Kong from 1925 until 1998. It was officially known as the Hong Kong International Airport from 1954 to 6 July 1998, when it was closed and replaced by the new Hong Kong International Airport. It is often known as Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport, or simply Kai Tak, to distinguish it from its successor which is often referred to as Chek Lap Kok Airport.

A view of the old airport (Kai Tak) by Wai Kit Lam.

With numerous skyscrapers and mountains located to the north and its only runway jutting out into  Victoria Harbour, landings at the airport were dramatic to experience and technically demanding for pilots. The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranked it as the 6th most dangerous airport in the world.

Hong Kong International Airport (IATA: HKG, ICAO: VHHH) is the main airport in Hong Kong.   It is colloquially known as Chek Lap Kok Airport (赤鱲角機場), being built on the island of Chep Lap Kok by land reclamation, and also to distinguish it from its predecessor, the closed Kai Tak Airport.

The airport opened for commercial operations in 1998, replacing Kai Tak, and is an important regional trans-shipment centre, passenger hub and gateway for destinations in Mainland China (with over 40 destinations) and the rest of Asia.

Wai Yi Lai 黎慧儀
Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris. 2010. Wai Yi Lai.

"I don't like to travel on plane as I used to be. I prefer train more as it takes longer. It's more "real" to me. Things are too fast now."

After she graduated in Fine Arts by the Royal Melbourne Institute of technology, she moved to Helsinky (Filand) to obtein her MA in Environmental Art in Aalto Universtiy.
